Scenic Byways
The communities of Delcambre, Erath, Abbeville, Kaplan and Gueydan are linked by the Cajun Corridor that crosses the parish along Hwy. 14. As you take a relaxing drive along the byway, you'll see quaint towns, cattle, rice and sugarcane farms, waterfowl, tree lined bayous, museums, locally-owned eating establishments and much more. To reach the Cajun Corridor from the north, travel south down Hwy. 167 from Lafayette and to the Village of Maurice. Maurice is home to Vivian Alexander Gallery & Museum, Hebert's Specialty Meats and the World Famous City Bar. Continue south down Hwy. 167 and arrive in Abbeville. The parish seat and founded by a French priest, downtown Abbeville is home to several oyster bars and seafood restaurants, museums and festivals. As you travel eastward from Abbeville, visit the towns of Erath and Delcambre, home of the Acadian Museum and Shrimp Festival each August. Take Hwy. 14 west into Kaplan, a French-Acadian rice-farming community home of the country superstar Sammy Kershaw, then to Gueydan, home of the annual Duck Festival.
A trip along Hwy. 82 to the southern part of the parish will bring you along the coast and to Pecan Island, a hunting and fishing community. This scenic roadway eventually travels through some of the most extensive marshlands in North America where you'll find some of the best birding in America, alligators and other wildlife all mixed in with small communities along the way.
